Bring the world into your home!

Each year South Africa attracts exchange students (learners) who would like to spend between four weeks and ten months learning about the country’s people and culture, mainly by also studying at a South African High School. In order to integrate these learners into everyday life and give them the complete South African experience, we place them with loving host families for the course of their stay.

If you have space in your heart and in your home for a new family member, we would love to welcome you into this very special program!

As a host family, you facilitate a “once-in-a-lifetime” experience for yourself and for a young person. You will share your family traditions and culture with your exchange student, thus providing him or her with a perspective completely unavailable to the average tourist. In addition, your student will be eager to tell you about life in his or her home country.

This is cultural exchange at its best!

Our international learners

World Study Group exchange students/learners are:

  • Between 15 and 17 years old
  • Outgoing, friendly and open-minded
  • Good students
  • Family-oriented

The majority of our exchange learners are from Europe. But we are very exited to see a fast growing number of learners joining us from North- and South America and Asia.

Requirements to host

We welcome host families of all religions and backgrounds!

We would gladly receive your host family application if you can provide the following:

  • A caring and supportive environment
  • Room and board for the course of the exchange student’s stay

Our top priority is to provide international learners and our local host families with a memorable, positive experience. In order to do so, we will provide you and your host student with an World Study Group Representative who will support the experience for everyone. After receiving your application, your Community Representative will visit with you personally, discuss with you at length all aspects of our program, and answer any questions you might have.

Upon arrival of our students in South Africa this unique cultural exchange program usually starts with a three day, intensive "Welcome Orientation" in the greater Cape Town area. This way the World Study Group Team Southern Africa makes sure that all learners have the right mind set, have a clear understanding about the "Do's and Don'ts" for a safe, happy and very successfull stay.

Please take a minute to contact us so we can arrange a personal visit at your home. This will give us a first impression of you and your family. Please contact us with any questions you have about our organization or program.
